Review: Lunatick Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette

Instead of putting money in the pockets of big name makeup companies, especially those that are attempting obvious knock offs of other companies or that test or animals, I’ve been on a recent mission to support indie makeup companies. Whether it’s Jeffree Star’s liquid to matte lipsticks, or nail lacquers by Aussie company Pretty Serious, I’m down for the little man.

Lunatick Cosmetics is a company I came across via a Tumblr blog for vegan makeup. I needed a new palette anyway, so I was stoked to see a collection of nude colors in a funky design. AND, it was affordable. Thirty five dollars as opposed to anything by Urban Decay for close to $60? Heck yes.

Lunatick Cosmetics Eyeshadow Supernatural Palette SwatchLunatick Cosmetics Eyeshadow Palette SupernaturalI purchased their Supernatural palette. The colors in the swatch from top to bottom are the colors in the palette from left to right. The left part of the color is with no primer, and the right side is with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer. Invocation is the first color and is a shimmer that would work well as a highlighter shade. It has a lavender tone to it. Myth is the second color in the palette and has a light pink tint to the white-nude shade. Spook is a matte, deep burgundy red. Reincarnation is a brownish purple matte shadow. The darkest shade in the palette is Ghoulight. It’s a matte shadow that initially looked black to me when it was applied, but there are tones of deep plum.

These shadows are well worth the buy. I was very happy with the colors and the cost. They last all day when used with a primer, and not to mention, the packaging is awesome! I love the spooky Halloween theme.

Review: Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks

Jeffree Star is an androgynous, LA-based musician who rose to fame during through MySpace. He’s also a make up artist working in California. When it comes to indie makeup brands, his cosmetics line is one of the most popular lines on social media. I got introduced to his makeup through Instagram, after doing research on better alternatives to Lime Crime – a brand that has some unique colors but a lot of bad juju surrounding it.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics has Velour Liquid Lipsticks and Velour Lip Scrubs currently available. A liquid lipstick is a product that goes on like a gloss but dries matte, like a lipstick. I purchased two of his colors – Unicorn Blood and Prom Night. They run $18 a piece.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Unicorn Blood Velour Liquid LipstickUnicorn Blood – The color of Unicorn Blood is very similar to Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Motorhead. Unicorn Blood has more of a mahogany color and less red undertones than the Kat Von D shade, however. I dig it. I did notice a licorice-like smell when I opened the tube, not that I minded all that much. This product takes a while to dry, and it lasted through the night of drinking and appetizer eating.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Prom Night Velour Liquid LipstickProm Night – This is a very in-your-face pink color. I love it. I didn’t feel like it was obnoxious while wearing it, which pinks can somehow look, especially if you don’t have doll white skin. This shade’s color lasted much longer than Unicorn Blood, for sure. Well into the next day, in fact. The only lip color that could rival this in shade and longevity was Revlon’s Ultimate Suede in Muse.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics is available online only at http://www.jeffreestarcosmetics.com/. A line of highlighters called Skin Frost will launch in Spring 2016 along with a stick lipstick called Lip Ammunition, according to their Instagram page. Mani Monday: Zoya & Square Hue Nude Look

IT’S JUST ANOTHER MANIIII MONDAYYYYY!

I did this nude look two weeks ago. For my base coat, I used Essie’s Protein Base. The matte nude color is by Zoya from their Satins line, and the color is Rowan. The gold color on the spotlight nail is Square Hue’s Sampokeskus which came in their December 2014 box. It’s also a textured polish. I used two top coats – Revlon’s Matte Top Coat for the Zoya polish and Sally Hansen’s Strengthening Top Coat.
