Fall Lip Colors Review!

Violets and berry shades seem to be all the rage since New York Fashion Week, and I’ve chosen three of my favorites so far. I usually use a lip scrub every other day to keep chapping to a minimum and the one I’ve used lately has been Lush’s Popcorn Lip Scrub. I’ve also used Mally’s Lip Scrub, too. I also like to use a dab of Ceramidin Cream by Dr. Jart. It is the only thing that plumps and seals chapped lips. For a dual package of Dr. Jart’s Ceramidin Cream and Ceramidin Liquid, it’s $32. Invest! Your pout will be so happy. Nyx is a product found at Target and Ulta, but I’ve only found Bite and Kat Von D’s products at Sephora.Nyx Lipstick, Bite Lipstick, Kat Von D Lipstick

  1. Nyx Creamy Round Lipstick in Violet Ray – $5.99 – This violet shade is not as deep or matte as you’d expect. It’s a cream lipstick through and through, which means color may fade much faster than a matte lipstick. I liked that it was a darker shade without being off putting, but it didn’t last through eating at all.
  2. Bite Luminous Creme Lipstick in Juniper – $24 – I love this berry shade! Bite Beauty’s products boast natural ingredients, and according to Think Dirty’s ratings, they’re rated a 5. This lip color lasts a long time. I only had to reapply once throughout the day. The layers to this color are interesting too because there’s enough red in it for it to be a near classic shade, but enough violet so it has an edge.
  3. Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Motorhead – $21 – Hands down, bar none, the best, coolest lipstick tube I’ve ever held in my hands. I felt like a badass wearing this shade. Though it seems more like a violet, it wears like a gothic red to me. It also lasts nearly as long as Bite’s Cream Lipstick, so that’s also a good thing.

App Review – Think Dirty

Ever wonder whats in your makeup?

Well you probably should. Your skin is the largest organ your body possesses, so what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it.

Think Dirty AppMost people recognize the leaping bunny or cruelty free symbol that appears on the back of beauty products, but just because something is cruelty free or contains no animal ingredients, it doesnt mean its non-toxic or non-carcinogenic.

Thats where Think Dirty comes in.

Think Dirty is an app available for iPhone and Android, and enables its users to scan or search for beauty products, or to check to see if their bathroom shelf is filled with toxins. There are three categories each product is graded on: carcinogenicity, developmental & reproductive toxicity, and allergies & immunotoxicities. The products are rated from clean to dirty, with 0 being the cleanest score and 10 being the dirtiest.

IMG_3707Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, a product many dermatologists will recommend for people with sensitive skin and a recipient of Good Housekeepings seal of approval, has a level 10 toxicity. This is a shocker for many who swear by this cleanser, like your humble blogger, but Think Dirty has that covered. Under the You May Also ❤tab, similar products are recommended, and theres even an option to buy right from the app.

So, download and get to scanning!

Beauty Tools Review

Sometimes, we all need a little help with our makeup and beauty routine. Not in the way of suggestions on how to wear our look, but just some assistance in making things run smoothly. That’s where these tools come in. I set out to find products that would help anyone getting ready in the morning, and the plus side is they’re available at drugstores and supermarkets, like Walmart.

  1. Hollywood Deodorant Removing Sponge – $5.00 – You know how annoying it is when you get deodorant on your clothes? And you’re like, “Ugh, why?!” Well, I got you covered. This sponge feels like a foam mattress, you don’t have to wet it, and you just rub on your deodorant stains a few times and they’re gone. Easy peasy!2.
  2. elf Makeup Remover Pen – $3.00 – I think what I like about this pen is the precision in correcting eyeliner mistakes. Sometimes when eyeliner or even lipliner mistakes happen, wetting a q-tip and wiping away the smudge also means I wipe away whatever CC cream I already have on. This pen eliminates that problem while also making sure my makeup remains on point.
  3. Beauty Spoon – $5.98 – One thing I hate is when lotion gets stuck in that tube-y bit inside the nozzle. Like, I know there’s more product in there. Same thing with chapstick. I know there’s at least .20¢ left in that eos lip balm, and I intend to use it. That’s where this spoon comes in. It’s super helpful in getting out all the extra product left in the lotion tube, and also larger lip balms like Baby Lips or eos.
