Review: Colored Eyeliner

Ever since I got some blue eyeliner in the June 2015 Birchbox, I’ve been super intrigued with using color eyeliner. It seemed like a slightly rebellious makeup move – yes, I’m wearing makeup, but BAM! It’s purple not black.

So, I went on a mission to find some colored eyeliner that wasn’t bank-breaking, and I did: Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Amethyst, and Hard Candy Take Me Out Liner in Twisted Grape.

Here is the review I wrote, which originally appeared on The Weekly Surge online:

In the quest to add color to my makeup routine, I decided to go for colored eyeliners. Both of these products were relatively inexpensive as makeup goes, and found at Wal-Mart, which is convenient. Revlon Colorstay Amethyst and Hard Candy Twisted Grape Eyeliner Swatch

This eyeliner comes with a built-in sharpener and smudgy sponge (my totally unofficial term for the thing at the end of an eyeliner pencil), which is kinda neat. The color itself is an icy purple.

When it’s applied, it looks barely-there noticeable, but if you take a step back from the mirror, you can tell there’s a little pop to your eye look.

This eyeliner is a traditional pencil, and also comes with a built-in sharpener, much like the Revlon eyeliner. This purple is more of a wine color, so it’s a bit darker.

It shows a more after you apply it, but for whatever reason, the application of this was so, so difficult. It did not go on easy, in other words. It still provided a subtle look, and good news, it lasted a pretty long time – even after I tried washing it off.

All in all, I was pretty disappointed with both eyeliners. I expected color that would stand out, but that’s not what I got.

If you’re looking to stay subtle, try one of these. If you want bold, I guess Urban Decay is the way to go.
