Tess Munster – Beauty & Style Inspiration

I don’t think I could pin it down to one thing. Tess (Munster) Holliday is an inspiring lady.

I see a lot of myself in her. We’re both from the South – Mississippi and South Carolina, respectively – and we both dream of bigger things. She made it happen by moving to L.A., working hard, and now she’s signed by MiLK Model Management. All while being a single mom and maintaining a long distance relationship. Go her. Knowing that she did it, means damn well I can accomplish my goals too.

I love that she’s fearless. She doesn’t mind exposing herself to people, even if that means dealing with a-holes. She loves her body, and it’s inspired me to do the same. I’m beautiful regardless of if I wear a lot of makeup or none, whether I wax or don’t, if I’m chubby or lean. That’s what I’ve learned from following her on Instagram. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks – only what YOU think. Her clothes and jewelry are funky, and I love the punk rock attitude she has about it. What I learned from her is that you can wear what you want and look awesome, as long as you have the confidence.

I love how she translates the 1950s pin-up girl look into something modern and classy. For her, it’s just simple winged liner and red lips. How can anyone not love that? Moreover, it’s easy and fast to do, y’know, once you’ve mastered winging your liner.

So, in short, I adore Tess. (P.S. Photo credit to @tessholiday on Instagram.)

Review: All-Natural Deodorant

I’ve been trying to be very conscious about the beauty products I use, from being cruelty free to natural to budget friendly. It’s hard! One of the things I’ve been doing the past year is using aluminum free deodorant. From LUSH’s Greeench and Guv’ner, to Tom’s and Naturally Fresh, I’ve tried them all.

Tom's of Maine Deodorant

Tom’s of Maine has a few varieties including apricot scent, but I chose the unscented aluminum-free deodorant. It smells vaguely citrusy to me, just like the kind of base scent all “natural” or hippie stuff seems to smell like. It’s like in the Conscious Beauty Scent Gallery there’s either patchouli or lemon as your choices. How about jasmine? Or lavender? Ah, anyway, it’s a solid bar that leaves no white residue. That’s a plus. However, IT DOESN’T WORK. Although I don’t feel like I’m smelly to other people when I use it, my clothes definitely STINK after I get home.

Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal

As far as Naturally Fresh Deodorant Crystal, it’s a roll on. It goes on clear but wet. There isn’t much of a scent tha I’ve noticed. But, like with Tom’s, it sadly doesn’t work. The only two options that ever stopped the scent for me were LUSH’s powdered deodorants Guv’ner and Greeench. Guv’ner leaves green stains, however, so that’s a bummer. Greeench is a white, lemon-y powder, so no stains. The only downside is if you don’t live near a LUSH store, you have to order it, which takes like two weeks to get to you if you’re on the East Coast. They can also be a bit pricy compared to Tom’s or Naturally Fresh.

My Top 3 – Beauty Wishlist

I’ve been thinking of what I want to do with my tax refund money when I get it. Do I save it? Do I buy shoes? Do I splurge on makeup? I’m unsure yet, but I’ve figured I’d compile a short list of what I would buy anyway:

1) Unicorn Lipstick by Lime Crime in Poisonberry – $18 – I’m really scared of doing something adventurous with my make up because I work in a professional environment in a conservative area, but I really, really want this vampy, deep purple lipstick from Lime Crime. I love their Instagram so much, and it really inspires the punk girl in me.

2) Venus: The Grunge Palette by Lime Crime – $42 – I love all these shades. I currently use Urban Decay’s Naked Palette, and I love it, but I really want to do something different. Also, I just remembered to clean my brushes when I get home…

3) Eyeshadow Primer Potion (travel size) by Urban Decay – $13 – I really want this product. I heard so many good things about it, and every person I’ve talked to only raved at how awesome it was.

What’s on your beauty wishlist, fellow bloggers?

Makeup: Save or Splurge?

Agreed! Some things definitely splurge on – like lipstick or eyeshadow. Other stuff, even beauty tools, you can get for bargain prices. #bbloggers

Say Hello to Gorgeous

Happy Monday! Being budget conscious, I’ve wanted to write a post for a while about what products you can save money on and what products you might want to splurge on. I should preface this by saying that of course you can save on all of these products, but I wanted to write this as if you were like me, that is, you can splurge every now and then, so what should you splurge on? Enough of this rambling introduction. Let’s begin.

Ombre Lipsticks

  • Mascara: When it comes to making lashes longer and thicker, it’s up to the brush, more so than the formula. That means you can skip on expensive formulas without sacrificing your chic look
  • Unusual Colors: If hot pink eyeliner magically became “in” this season, you wouldn’t want to drop big bucks on it. It could be out of style next season. Drugstore brands are great for testing trends…
