While on Instagram the other day (I’m @shbouzounis on there, by the way), I came across a post that depicted a woman in a burqa and it said, “Freedom is me choosing what I want you to see.”
I never thought of it that way before, admittedly. About bodies, freedom, and especially women in burqas or hijabs.
But there’s a point here.
My body – what happens to it, what happens in it – isn’t subject to what some government or religious institution or culture says it should be. It isn’t just a baby making machine or a thing any man has a right to, it’s MY BODY.
And the moment when all men and women can realize this and respect it, we’ll be better off.
